Jesus On Buffet

As I'm waiting in line at Arby's trying to figure out which 5 I want to incorporate into my Pick 5 for $5.95, I started to think. The one thing on my mind was how as Christians we tend to see a lot of picking and choosing of which bible verse applies to us. We take a little piece of heaven but purity is left to the side. We say things like, this is ok to Jesus. We put Jesus on buffet. We create a grey area on things like sex and drugs and drunkeness, when the bible is printed black and white, well sometimes red if you have a red-print bible! LOL! Yes, I just LOLed in my blog. Irrelevant!

This idea of Jesus on buffet comes from our Americanized church and those who claim to believe but don't have any evidence in their lives.  This idea comes from this generation claiming the bible has lost its relevance in this changing culture.  We start to conform ourselves to what I think of as the Church in Laodicea (Rev. 3:16) and become lukewarm.  Lukewarm or middle of the road christians can have many forms, from the apathetic to the 'buffeter'.  This is so real in the American church.  We see people believing in salvation from a sinners prayer rather that in believing and loving God. When John 14:15 clearly states, "If you love me, you will keep my commandments." Maybe many of us have forgotten the Word or even worse have forgotten how to love.

For some, we have our Top 5 or our Pick 5 aspects of christianity.  We have our focus points of our life and sometimes leave other commandments out of the picture.  Where we go completely wrong is focusing on the commandments or the gifts of the spirit, when simply loving God will do.  The simplicity of christianity is this, Love God!  When loving God everything else falls into place.  The Word says if you love God, then you cannot hate another, and if you love God you will obey. There is no complexity in love as we are called to love like children and love our father above all else.  Our human, imperfect minds make this live complex and altar the view of mankind we are called to have.

This word from the Message version rings in my ears,
26He answered, "What's written in God's Law? How do you interpret it?"
27He said, "That you love the Lord your God with all your passion and prayer and muscle and intelligence—and that you love your neighbor as well as you do yourself."- Luke 10

The interpretation of the law God has laid down before man can be summed up in one word, LOVE!  When are loving God, we take in all that HE is and he is no longer on buffet.  When we are loving God, we make a difference in the life of every person we come in contact with. When we are finally loving God, we are finally loving His people.

My challenge for myself and whoever wants to join me is to make every persons day a little bit better.  If that is too much for you, start with one.  I'm not talking selling or giving all your money away, unless God calls you to it, but rather let the joy of the Lord flow through you and be a light in someones dark day.
