The other day, I had the day off and felt overwhelmed, so I decided to relax all day. I had a day of laziness and rest and boredom. I look back and reflect about the days I choose to do this, or the times I'm bored and feel a conviction. If God came down and instructed me with what to do that day, would it look like that?
Rest is something apparent in the bible, but isn't that what we do when we sleep? I often tell people that God is a god of action! Jesus was a radical man, and lived a life without omission. To me this is one of the most mind-boggling, awesome, outstanding characteristics of Jesus. There was never at one time that Jesus omitted the will of the Father. That means at ALL times of His life, He was living in God's perfect will and never missing a beat, never over-looking a divine appointment, never not bringing hope and love and life. There was nothing mediocre about Jesus' life.
In Revelations it says that God spews the lukewarm out of his mouth. Are those the Christians living mediocre faiths? As a we read scripture, we see many seemingly ordinary people step out in faith and have miracles happen. From Benaiah to Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, and from ALL of the disciples (Peter in particular) to Paul. Ordinary people standing up in love, taking a risk, not living down to mediocrity. Is the inability to act within love but claiming to have it, the definition of a 'lukewarm Christian'? Or a 'Christian' living a mediocre life?
I am not talking of a life filled with riches or even being a missionary in the most secluded area of Africa. I believe a radical life for Jesus, is the life you live now multiplied by loving everyone in every situation and making disciples wherever God has placed you. You can live a fulfilled life of radical Christianity in the workplace, school, as a stay at home parent, mission field, church, urban areas, it can be anywhere you are. You can make all the money in the world and use it for God's glory, you can not have a dollar to your name and still be making disciples. This gospel was never meant to stay with Christians; this gospel was meant to bring hope to all the world, to all races, all political views, and all religious views. To keep this gospel to yourself is the greatest sin of omission.
Live a life of Love, bring Good news, Make disciples
God created us, and His son's last words to His disciples was telling us to CREATE in Gods name and for His glory. Dare to be different and live passionately for Christ and make some disciples.
