This is why student ministry

For everyone working in Youth Ministry, there are days where there isn't enough Monster, or Red Bull, or coffee to get you through the day/event/trip at the same pace and energy level as the teenage students.  Still being relatively young in my day, I still have a hard time keeping up with the kids.  At times this job is completely unglamorous, dirty, gritty, and tiring, which can leave a man questioning why do I do this?  What do I hope to gain from being with these students on a daily basis, what do I hope to see.  The days where you feel like no one is getting the point of this whole 'Jesus Thing', are the most frustrating.  But some days, some days... the get it, the understand... heres a story from this week
As a whole, the service was awesome.  The Holy Spirit was active during worship and at the close of worship.  To conclude the service Pastor Jordan gave the opportunity for the students to give their lives to Christ for the first time, with every head bowed and every eye closed.  One student raised their hand for the very first time.  The Jordan challenged this student to stand up in boldness and come forth for prayer in front of the student-body.  The student didn't move.... Another student, stood up and started encouraging the anonymous student.  After the beautiful encouraging words from one student into the ears of another, this student took her stand and went forth.  Skyline cheered, some cried.  The encouraging student met her at the front with a hand shake and a hug.  Beautiful moments like these, make every single late night playing xbox with student, every 4 hr phone call with a student, every dollar spent on chipotle, and every moment crying on behalf of the students worth it. God rejoices when things like these happen.  This was very pleasing to the staff at Crossroads Church and to the Father in Heaven.

Nights like these draw me to my knees in awe of God.  This call me to praise and cry even more than usual.  To be a part of a students life that has come so far and to stand up for a cause makes every single day worth it all.  When we see students choose love and take hold of the freedom God has for them, we can have a day of rest and rejoicing.... then do it all again.

Love You All
